Ready to look at three quality used boats? Here are our editor picks for this month: Sea Ray, Glastron, and Boston Whaler.
Sea Ray 340 Amberjack
The Sea Ray Amberjack series boats were always really enticing because of how well they straddled the line between luxury cruiser and hardcore fishing boat. An Amberjack does both well, and that’s not as easy as it seems.

Look at the photos of belowdecks and you’d think you were in one of Sea Ray’s Sundancer cruisers rather than a fishing boat. But on deck there’s no doubt you’re on a fishing boat. That’s what an Amberjack is. You’ll discover a wide-open cockpit with an extra-wide beam, rodholders in the gunwales, full electronics suites, and a removable L-shaped aft bench seat that can be used for cruising or stowed for fishing. Below there’s a full galley, a stand-up head compartment, and berths for four.

Glastron MX 175
For anyone looking to get into boating, a runabout is usually the way to go. Boatbuilders understand that; many of them make entry-level runabouts and offer them for less than the price of the average new car. That might not be cheap enough for some people, which is why the used market is so attractive.

And that’s what makes the Glastron MX 175 stand out. For starters, Glastron runabouts are perfect for new boaters because they’re so easy to drive. The hull design pops on plane quickly, and they ride nicely. Expect to find perks like a matching single-axle trailer with new tires, a Bimini top, snap-in carpeting, and a full canvas cover. For someone new to boating, looking for a good way in, this is about as good as it gets.

Boston Whaler 280 Outrage
A 28-foot Boston Whaler? Sign me up. This one is all rigged out for fishing with features like rocket launcher rod holders, livewells, fishboxes, raw water washdowns, and more.

Even though this is obviously a fishing machine, it also has some creature comforts, too. A V-berth is tucked beneath the full walkaround deck, there are freshwater sinks and showers, and also has a porta-pottie or vacuum-flush head with a macerator, which is handy to have on those long fishing trips. With a 300-gallon fuel tank, this boat has outstanding range, too. Because it’s a Boston Whaler, it will hold its value better than many other brands, so if you do decide to get rid of it after a few years, you might get a lot of your money back out of it.
